There's a place along every dark road where dreams disolve and hopes fail, in which reality kicks in and desperation takes control. It is that same place where Singer/Songwriter Matthew Griswold finds the inspiration for his songwriting.
Growing up in the Twin Cities of Minnesota and living a fairly traditional mid-western lifestyle, it was very early on that Matthew developed a creative outlook on his life. After an attempt in an acting and modeling career, Matthew found a passion in songwriting and performance, and started a highschool rock&roll band while going to school at Concordia Academy during his late teen years. Up until that point, music had been more of a casual virtue that Matthew developed while growing up. In 2001 he enrolled into the Minnesota State Univeristy in Moorhead MN to study music, but took on a new direction only after a year of attendance.
Matthew joined the US Army in 2003 and lived in Europe for the first few years of his enlistment. He then spent a year deployed in Kuwait/Iraq and after a safe return, he then went back to the US and was stationed in Kentucky. Wheather it was jamming in the pubs of Europe, performing for the troops on the MWR stages in Kuwait and Iraq, or singing in the songwriter cafes of Nashville, Matthew has continued to work hard for that same notion he developed playing with his band back in Minnesota.
With mulitple album and EP releases throughout online music stores, Matthew has been able to make his dream even more of a reality and continues to gain fans from all over the globe. He now plays solo acoustic shows in a variety of places through-out the US to promote his self founded Indie label "NorthWoods Records", which is the label that he has released and published all of his original work through. Networking via: podcasts, emails, word of mouth and internet profiles, NorthWoods Records has been laying out a path to allow for a solid and long lasting future. Ideas like that are very hard to come by in an idustry that changes on a daily basis. So please enjoy the music, and we look forward to seeing you at the next show.
